THE true blue story of dog versus postie took a nasty turn earlier this month when Australia Post refused to deliver mail to residents of Kalgoolie Street, Ascot – a local pooch was terrorising its delivery staff.
After driving to the Welshpool collection centre to pick up their post for three days, neighbours decided enough was enough and contacted Swan MP Steve Irons for help.
Phone calls to Australia Post and Belmont Council rangers ensued before the canine culprit was brought to book and the street made safe for postal workers once again.
Australia Post spokesperson Suzanne Browne said the offending woofer, a rottweiler, had been known to chase the posties on and off since July 2007.
A City of Belmont spokeswoman said the council had investigated a complaint about the dog in January.
The dog’s owners were fined, and then a second complaint was received last month.
The tale had a happy ending, with Australia Post agreeing to deliver the mail again – after the offending hound’s owner kindly offered to keep it tied up.
