PREMIER Colin Barnett has replied to frustrated Bellevue residents to confirm that there is progress on the suburb’s Omex site, which belongs to the WA Planning Commission.
Once a refinery, the Omex site is at the corner of Henkin and Clayton streets and was earmarked for residential development.
In a letter to the Premier, Bellevue Residents and Ratepayers Association made three suggestions to the Government:
- Pay Landcorp to complete the development;
- Find a private developer to undertake the development; or
- Enter into a private-public partnership to develop the land.
Mr Barnett refused to comment further but said Bellevue residents association spokesperson Martin Chape would receive his full response this week.
Mr Chape said WA Planning Commission informed the residents that the site was ready to be developed but needed government funding or a private developer to move ahead.
In May this year, the WAPC endorsed the outline development plan developed by TPG and will now sell the property with subdivision approval in place.
