CONSTRUCTION of the $101million Reid Highway extension from West Swan Road to the Great Northern Highway is almost complete and will be open to traffic by the end of February.

The project involves the construction of 2.6km of dual carriageway in Middle Swan, the provision of a road underpass and service road and improvements to a signalised intersection at Great Northern Highway.

There will also be a new four-lane road bridge across the Swan River.

Transport Minister Simon O'Brien said today that most of the structural work was finished with asphalt work, installation of safety barriers and street lighting and traffic signals now completed.

Swan Hills MLA Frank Alban said the road extension would provide significant benefits to the Swan Valley for both residents and businesses.

Mr O'Brien thanked motorists for their patience during construction.

“Ultimately, this work will help reduce road congestion, improve access to areas of potential employment and residential growth and provide improved facilities for pedestrians and cyclists,” he
said.

A lot of money for such a short distance. Going west, it is 2 lanes going into 1 until until Beechboro Rd. The main advantage will be in heading in the opposite direction. It needs to be 2 lanes each direction all the way to Beechboro Rd. An expensive bandaid!!!
