SPORTING history will be made at Perth Oval on Friday with Super Rugby being played at a dedicated rectangular venue for the first time in WA.

The Western Force will take on the Brumbies with as many as a dozen new faces in the team joining in the established players including James O'Connor, Nathan Sharpe, Matt Hodgson, Ryan Cross, Pek Cowan and David Pocock.

Rugby WA chief executive Vern Reid said this was a huge game for the club.

“This is a historic game , our first at ME Bank Stadium in Super Rugby,” he said.

“Plenty of time and effort has gone into making the stadium a great venue for rugby and we're confident it'll be a memorable season.”

The Canberra-based side have been dubbed the Aussie 'Real Madrid' in some media circles for their talent and depth on paper but the Western Force will be out to ensure they receive a tough reception at the club's new home ground.

“There is a great feeling within the squad this season and we can't wait for kick-off,” Mr Reid said.

The Force defeated Queensland Reds 31-12 in their third and final trial match at the weekend.
